Kime Buzzelli top 5

Kime Buzzelli (pronounced "Kimmy") is a one woman creative tour de force, painter-clothing maker, owner of Show Pony on Echo Park Blvd. and all around good egg. Her art has been published in books such as Fashion Illustration Next by Laird Borrelli- Vintage L.A. due out this spring. and magazines such as Lula (UK), Bust, PAPER, W, Front Desk, Juxtapoz, and BPM. Her clothing has also been featured in Elle, Venus, Jalouse, W, Apparel News, WWD and PAPER among others.

Her work is filtered through an obsession with fashion but that interest quickly dissolves into something too pathological and diverse to be considered fashion illustrations. Rather she reassembles that familiar iconography into a more personal vocabulary to illustrate her interests which she describes as “Female desire. Girls trying to solve the puzzle of love. Floating ghosts in search of happiness. Obsession and disaster, Magic moments fueled by fantasy, stains and the evidence of mischief. I love collecting things that tell a story- objects with evidence of a life well lived.”

Fresh off a recent solo show at New Image art I met her at a party last week where we found out we had much in common when it comes to art. I of course immediately took advantage of this new found friendship to hit her up for the blog and she graciously agreed to give us her top 5 on the east side. So without furher ado...

Jeana Sohn's Top 5 on the East Side

Jeana Sohn is a terrific artist on the rise and Los Feliz resident. A recent Graduate of Cal Arts she’s already a veteran with numerous exhibitions under her belt and an upcoming solo show at Taylor De Cordoba in December. Impeccably styled sets that revolve around her personal mythology are the hallmark of her work and we all regularly drool over each new piece. I could go on and on about her talent but its so much easier just to check it out for yourself at jeanasohn.com With everything she has going on she also happens to be a sweet person who took the time to share her favorite spots on the eastside.

1. GriffithPark- i feel so lucky to live close to the park. despite
the big fire a few months ago, you can still see tons of animals like
deer, bunnies and little foxes.

Get to Know Sonia Romero

Sonia Romero is an extremely talented artist and Echo Park resident. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design she combines traditional techniques with a contemporary receptivity. Her meticulous sense of craft is unrivaled in stunning updates of traditional iconography. She graciously agreed to share her top 5 five on the east side with SLGA.

Get to know Souther Salazar...

...Artist and Silver Lake resident. As a recent graduate from the Art Center College of Design he already has numerous exhibitions and magazines to his credit including an article in Giant Robot where his work also graced the cover. On Saturday, June 23rd, he has a solo exhibition at Jonathan Levine in New York that promises to be spectacular! In the meantime check out his top 5 neighborhood picks and then visit his site to see more of his amazing work.

skyscrapers look like a tiny out-of-place oasis in the time of the
dinosaurs with palm trees and nothing else surrounding...

Kelly Lynn Jones Top 5 on the East Side

Say hello to Kelly Lynn Jones, Silver Lake resident and one woman creative force. She’s an established artist with numerous exhibitions under her belt (and an upcoming show at Junc Gallery in May), co-founder of a line of clothing and proprietor of Little Paper Planes an online store where artists can sell their limited edition prints, jewelry, t-shirts, tote bags, accessories and other one of kind items. As she explains “The store started out as a place where I could sell things I made to help support me while I focus on painting. Then I started selling my friends art as well and then they had friends and so on. Now its a community of friends of friends of all over coming together by making art and having it available to the public on little paper planes. I feel honored to get to help sell all the amazing pieces these artists make”

Personally I’m amazed with the extremely high level of quality that she is able to maintain on all her projects and even with all she has going on she graciously made time to give SGLA her top five on the eastside.

1. Silver Lake Coffee on Glendale, best ice coffee, they have this pre mix ice coffee that has sugar, milk, espresso, coffee and vanilla in it..its pretty serious.

2. blue rooster art supply on Vermont, has a good variety of art supplies plus nick who owns it will make you wood panels too and teaches silk screening too!

3. Pizza Buena on Sunset @ Alvarado, love the pizza!

4. Spaceland on Silver lake always has good bands from LA and else where playing.

5. Reform School on Santa Monica has great little instant buys like handmade cards, cute little bird vases as well as having monthly art shows
