Jeana Sohn's Top 5 on the East Side

Jeana2 Jeana

Jeana Sohn is a terrific artist on the rise and Los Feliz resident. A recent Graduate of Cal Arts she’s already a veteran with numerous exhibitions under her belt and an upcoming solo show at Taylor De Cordoba in December. Impeccably styled sets that revolve around her personal mythology are the hallmark of her work and we all regularly drool over each new piece. I could go on and on about her talent but its so much easier just to check it out for yourself at jeanasohn.com With everything she has going on she also happens to be a sweet person who took the time to share her favorite spots on the eastside.

1. GriffithPark- i feel so lucky to live close to the park. despite
the big fire a few months ago, you can still see tons of animals like
deer, bunnies and little foxes.

The Silver Lake Reservoir Feud

Silver_lake

I'm not really into "facts" or "research" per se preferring to rely on rumor and my own biases to come to conclusions. Which goes to my opinion forming process of the new recreation space planned around the Silver Lake Reservoir. I vaguely remember hearing something about something and how they where planning a new park or something and how some people in the community are upset about it.  I like the idea of a neighborhood park so It seemed like a pretty good idea to me.

Having said that, after reading a pro and con editorial in the last Los Feliz ledger I decided to roll my sleeves up and figure out what the heck is really going on. But then it got hard and I got tired... but not before I pieced together few more clues including a great map of the project  from the decidedly pro Committee to Save Silver Lake's Reseviors (click the image on their site for the full pdf) which details the various stages stages.

I have to say to this point I'm way pro the project. The oppositions arguments appear to be fueled more by the "not in my back yard" type who want to keep out the outsiders more than by the points outlined in the editorial. But you can decide for yourself. Disagree? Let us know

Neighborhood Developments

Map_2

Map2_2

Lots of developments going on especially near the Sunset Junction. Here's a few of the ones we know about that may be of interest to our esteemed readers.

1.The Bates Hotel
I always though this was called the Bates Motel because it was incredibly creepy like the one in the movie Phsyco but looking at the map I see it is actually at the corner of  Sunset and Bates… Anyway last we heard the hipster upgrade planned by Dana Hollister was scheduled for late 2007, early 2008. Peeked over the fence this weekend didn't look like any renovation was in the works. If anybody has info on what the heck is going on please let us know.

In the News

Campuscircle_3

Campus Circle (June 13 ed.) listed a best of Silver Lake and unlike some other best of lists it actually seems like they walked around a bit, naming Thinkspace as a great place to take a date on a Friday ( and what do you know they just so happen to be having a reception this Friday, funny how that works out) and Pull My Daisy as a shopping destination. Of course the list also included all the usual suspects Vista, Reservoir, Music consevatory... blah, blah blah

I looked to see if they posted the article online, nope but did find lots of other articles about SL and EP

Jeff Electric Gallery Closing

Mustachio
Jeffelectric's Last Mustachioed Hurrah
(Originally posted by Lucinda Michele on blogging.la)
"Jeffelectric gallery on Sunset is, sadly, saying goodbye after over five years of showing inspired, often witty art in its little storefront down the street from the Silverlake Lounge. This Friday is their final Moustache Party with rockers the Henry Clay People, Natural Disasters, and Jeff's own Downtown / Union--you gotta wear a moustache, real, fake, or Sharpie ( my personal fave) to get in free. Swing by on the 10th for Travis Millard's release of his latest Fudge Factory comic compilation titled Hey Fudge...and then that's it. Suckage. Guess I'll just have to keep going to see Downtown / Union to get my fix of Jeff Hartline's fabulous visage...or perhaps arrange a leetle malfunction in my home's lighting system. He's also an electrician.

Wrestling In SL... Finally!!

Plas7_2

It's not very often you get to see live wrestling in Silver Lake. I thought all I would have of the Parking Lot Show's Lucha performance where fond memories to keep me warm at night. But thankfully kitsunenoir.com/blog posted both pictures and video. What's harder to convey was the tension in the audience which was sweet a mixture of fear and laughter as the wrestlers fought their way trough the crowd.  It was all fun and games till one of the wrestlers body slammed the other one onto the table of espresso samples from the soon to open Intelligentsia Coffee, knocking the table over and sending miniature paper coffee cups flying everywhere.
